As we approach “Christmas”, the season when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, it is time to remember the reason for his birth. What job did Jesus come to accomplish? It is easy to forget as our focus gets lost and our priorities become misaligned.
Romans 5:12 – “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, so also death was passed on to all men because all sinned.” One man sinned, then entered death and all that is associated with it – floods, devastation, pestilence, diseases, brokenness etc.
“So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:21
Jesus came to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45), by paying with his life he redeemed us unto himself. Hebrews 9:26: “Jesus appeared once for all … to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
Jesus’ birth changed everything, and now that is a reason to celebrate!
