The Blueprint of Godly Motherhood Transcends Time

Two of the occasions in scripture where God provided a blueprint for them to follow were, 1) Noah to build the ark and 2) Solomon to build the temple. Even though there is no manual with specific instructions as to how to be a Godly mother the Bible provides numerous examples of mothers who had a significant impact on their families and communities.

One of the most well-known mothers in the Bible is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary’s story is a powerful example of faith, obedience, and trust in God’s plan. Despite facing social stigma and potential danger, Mary accepted God’s call to be the mother of the Messiah. This could not have been an easy job knowing that Jesus was a special child.

Another mother in the Bible who is often overlooked is Jochebed, the mother of Moses. Jochebed’s story is one of courage and ingenuity. She risked her life to save her infant son from Pharaoh’s decree to kill all Hebrew baby boys and then arranged for him to be raised in the safety of Pharaoh’s palace. Through her courage and resourcefulness, Jochebed ensured that Moses would grow up to become one of the most important figures in Jewish history.

Hannah the mother of Samuel, was barren for many years, but she prayed to God for a child and made a vow to dedicate him to God’s service. When Samuel was born, Hannah kept her promise and brought him to the temple to be raised by the priest Eli. Samuel went on to become a great prophet and leader of Israel.  Hannah’s faith and devotion were a crucial part of his upbringing.

Mothers today can draw inspiration and guidance from these biblical examples. We can look to Mary’s unwavering faith and trust in God, Jochebed’s ingenuity and resourcefulness, and Hannah’s commitment to raising her child in God’s service. We can also find comfort in knowing that God is with us in our struggles and challenges, just as he was with these biblical mothers.

Jesus our blueprint, also valued children and emphasised the importance of nurturing them in faith and love. He also taught that mothers (and fathers) have a special role in raising their children and instilling in them the values of the kingdom of Godfostering the environment for spiritual growth and well-being

The blueprint of Godly motherhood is not limited to the stories of women in the Bible. Throughout history, women of faith have exemplified this standard, passing down their wisdom and values to future generations. Women like Susanna Wesley, the mother of John and Charles Wesley, who dedicated herself to raising her children in the faith and instilling in them a love for God.

In a world that is constantly changing, the blueprint of godly motherhood remains a constant, providing a source of strength, guidance, and inspiration for mothers everywhere. It is a standard that is grounded in the love and wisdom of God and reflects the importance of the mother’s role in shaping the lives of her children and the world around her.

As we celebrate the mothers in our lives, we are reminded of the essential qualities that make godly motherhood such a profound and transformative experience. May we strive to embody the blueprint of Godly motherhood, a timeless and enduring legacy that transcends time and space, a testament to the power of love, sacrifice, and nurturing.
